TerraVin Te Ahu 2011 wins International Sauvignon Blanc Trophy

TerraVin Winery walked away yesterday with three International Wine Competition awards for their Te Ahu 2011, a barrel fermented and matured Sauvignon Blanc. 

Along with the most gratifying 'International Sauvignon Blanc Trophy', the 2011 vintage also won best in 'New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc’ and ‘New Zealand Oaked Sauvignon Blanc’.

Charles Metcalfe, co-chairman of the IWC, quoted in an article by Richard Siddle, Harpers, said that  'The TerraVin Te Ahu 2011 triumphed over hundreds of global contenders to pick up the International Sauvignon Blanc trophy and is truly stunning.'  

And the tasting note from the judges read as follows: ‘Idiosyncratic but exciting.  Boldly pungent, pepper and lime zest, indicative of a wild ferment. Youthful vibrance and life.  Focused and flavourful with abundant lime, clementine, flinty and peppery. Long and zesty finish.  A charmingly charismatic wine.’ 

Based in Marlborough, New Zealand, TerraVin Winery is a property that Atlas has worked with for a number of years. Now under the direction of winemaker Gordon Richie, TerraVin's proprietors were originally one of the first in the region to pioneer hillside viticulture .
