Steve Weids, formerly Head of Private Clients a...

Steve joined the wine trade in the early 1990s. It was at Notting Hill-based Armit that Steve worked his way up to Head of Private Clients, managing a team of 7 as well as advising clients on their collections. A great many of Steve’s clients have purchased from him over a number of years, benefiting from both his tasting opinions and his market insight. Toby Bekker's 2012 Syrah receives glowing revie...

Some few weeks ago we sent out an offer for Toby Bekker’s 2012 Syrah. Following a thoroughly impressive tasting in the office, we were very pleased to have secured the UK exclusivity for Toby’s wines. The Bekker’s Syrah ticks all the boxes; elegant, bright and focused, it offers dark fruits and exotic spice in the glass. It exhibits none of the headinesss so frequently found in the region but rather great finesse and precision. We firmly believe that Toby is currently making some of the most exciting and impressive wines in the McLaren Vale and so it is a pleasure to be able to sell his wines at this early stage. It turns out, we are not the only ones with this mind; the wine has found great favour with the critics with the likes of Lisa Perrotti-Brown (95+ points), James Halliday (97 Points) and Matthew Jukes. His note, published just last week, is below.

Pavie, perhaps more than any other property in Bordeaux, is well known for dividing the opinion of critics – most famously with high points from Robert Parker over the years and low ones from several European critics. Simon Larkin of London-based Atlas Fine Wines points out the geographical bias that was seen in the early days has lessened recently

Bordeaux 2014

Bordeaux 2014 is under way and, while it is still too early to call the vintage, the Bordelaise are relatively optimistic. The region experienced high rainfall from October 2013-March 2013 (on par with that of 2000-2001) and huge variations spring temperatures meant that mildew was a problem for the vignerons on both the Left and Right Bank. An early bud break in April was followed by relatively successful flowering over the next two months – thanks to sunshine through May and June. Late summer was humid – to say the very least – with reported 8.5 of ‘dry
